Relay

Want to experience the camaraderie and energy of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon with family and friends? Enter a team in the 5-person relay. The race has two 3.1 mile legs, two 6.2 mile legs and one 7.5 mile leg so there are opportunities for runners of all skill levels and walkers are welcome.

How to Register Your Relay Team

Click Register at the top of the page. The first person to register the team will automatically become the Team Captain. Click “Marathon Relay” and start to complete the registration process. Continue on to the question slide that says “Team Selection.” Then select “Create New.” This is where you have the opportunity to come up with your team name. Be sure to tell your teammates the name that you created so that when they go to join your team they can find the correct team to join. Get creative! (It is important to note the Marathon Relay can only be paid once during registration, so it is up to the Captain to collect payment from their teammates, if reimbursement is expected). Complete the rest of your registration process and you have successfully created a Relay Team!

How to Add Team Members or Join a Relay Team

After you have created your Relay Team, you must have each team member register and join your team. There are two ways to complete your team. On the last slide of registration, you can add other team members at the Checkout Summary screen. Click the ADD NEW ENTRY button, select the Marathon Relay option, and add your team members information using SAME TEAM NAME to avoid an additional fee. Complete the registration process to the end, and then repeat if you are adding additional members.

In order for prospective Relay Teammates to join, they will need to go online and go through the registration process themselves, as they will need to input personal information. After following the registration link above click “Marathon Relay.” Have the team member complete their personal information, check to agree the waiver and then continue on to the “Team Selection” slide and click “Join Team.” As long as the team member types in the correct team name, they will be added to your team, and their registration fee will be waived since the Team Captain already paid it upfront. Complete the rest of your registration process and you are successfully added to the team!

If you need any help removing individuals from your team, changing the Captain of the Relay, or any other relevant inquiries, please contact us.

Packet Pickup for Relay Teams

There is one packet for each team that includes all 5 bibs and the timing tag. Only one person from each team needs to go to the Health & Fitness Expo to pick up the packet, although we want everyone who can to come out and enjoy it. T-shirts are picked up in a separate t-shirt area and the t-shirt sizes will be printed on the packet. Packet pickup confirmation was emailed to the team captain.

Relay Format

Each Marathon Relay Runner will cross a corresponding Relay Race Finish Line at the end of your leg of the Relay Race. Relay medals will only be available at the finish line, please have the last leg runner pick these up for the entire team. Upon completion of your leg of the race, you will have the ability to ride the Relay Bus Shuttle back to the Reunion Area, to cheer on the member of your team running the final leg of the Relay Race. Relay team members who run the first legs of the race may meet up with the last runner at 12th and Broadway to cross the Finish Line as a team. This will be the corresponding Relay Race Finish Line for this member’s leg of the race.

support-a-runner-todayThis 5-Person Relay follows the Eikeden format (see notes at bottom*)

Team Format

A Relay team consists of 5 members.  If you choose, a Relay team can consist of fewer than 5 members (one or more members running more than one leg), but the entire team fee for 5 participants must still be paid. A Relay team member can participate in more than one event as long as he/she is registered in each event.

Marathon/Relay Participation – You must register and pay the Marathon entry and also register/pay as a team member on a Relay team. You would wear the chip you receive for the marathon the entire race and you would also carry the team chip (strapped to your ankle) during your leg of the Relay.

Half Marathon/Relay Participation – You must register and pay the Half Marathon entry and also register/pay as a team member on a Relay team.  You would wear the chip you receive for the marathon the entire race and you would also carry the team chip (strapped to your ankle) during your leg of the Relay.  The ONLY leg of the Relay that you may run is Leg 1 as this is the ONLY leg that will allow you to stay on the Half Marathon course.  All other legs of the Relay take you into the Full Marathon course.

5K/Relay Participation – It is not possible to run the 5k course and participate in the Relay.

* The lengths of the relay legs are approximate. The first leg is short, as the 10K point is the bridge over the creek a little down the road from the church where the exchange takes place. This makes the second leg a little long (276 feet) but it does finish on the 15K mark. The 3rd leg should finish on Lake Shore Drive right before the road goes over the Lake Hefner Parkway, but space and traffic issues move that exchange back into the park making the 3rd leg about .3 miles short, or 7.3 miles. This of course makes the 4th leg .3 miles long, or 3.4 miles. Additionally, the 4th leg should have finished in the middle of 63rd St. which would not work well, so you have to run to the other side of the road. The 5th leg is very close to 10K.
