·         "You've done harder things than this."

·         "You made it to the START, you WILL make it to the FINISH."

·         "Pain is just weakness leaving your body."

·         "Remember the reasons you are running."

·         "My mommy/daddy is faster than your mommy/daddy."

·         "If it was easy, everyone would do it."

·         “The person who starts the race is not the same person who finishes the race."

·         "This 26.2 is for all the girls/boys picked last in gym class."

·         "It's not 26.2 miles…it's 22 water stops."

·         "Last is just the slowest winner."

What to Wear

Due to the fact that marathons take a long time and there will be a lot of standing and waiting, keep in mind that on cold or hot days you will be colder or hotter than you think. Always grab an extra bit of clothing; you will be thankful you have it.  Pick something fun and noticeable to wear.  It is really fun to interact with other spectators, and a crazy hat, shirt, or balloon tied to you is a great conversation starter. Also, remember to wear comfortable shoes. It is very easy to put in a few miles yourself, and your feet will thank you for wearing sensible shoes.  If you are part of a group, ask everyone to wear something that identifies your group or dress in a certain theme like Christmas in April, Disco, Hawaiian, Circus, etc...

What to Bring

It is really handy to take a backpack.  Load it with snacks and drinks for yourself because you might not want to leave your location to buy food. A camera and back up film or memory stick is a must if you want to capture some of the action from your vantage point.  Noise makers such as cow bells can keep the crowd and the runners fired up!  An umbrella and poncho are also good things to pack as April showers can occur in Oklahoma.

If Runners Ask…

GU Energy Gel is provided after Mile 16.  Many of the Water Stops along the last half of the course also provide GU.

All 22 Water Stops provide water and PowerAde.  Many of them also provide pretzels.
