The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Relay allows runners of all levels to participate in this great event.
This 5-Person Relay follows the Eikeden format (see notes at bottom *)
1st Leg – 10km/6.2 miles
2nd Leg – 5km/3.1 miles
3rd Leg – 12km/7.6 miles
4th Leg – 5km/3.1 miles
5th Leg – 10km/6.2 miles
ChampionChip Timing
ensures every team receives an accurate time (awards and place are based on gun
time). Each team will receive one (1) timing chip and an ankle strap.
Each team member must wear the chip during their leg of the relay and
then pass it to the next runner at the realy exchange point. Your
team's total time includes the time it takes to hand off the chip.
Traffic control for at least 6 hours. Later finishers will be supported.
Race Start: Sunday, April 26, 2009, 6:30 AM CST
Start Line: The start line is
located on Robinson Avenue between NW 6th Street and NW 5th Street (at
the east entrance to the Oklahoma City National Memorial).
Finish Line: The finsh line is
located on Broadway between NW 6th Street and NW 5th Street (one block
east of the Oklahoma City National Memorial).
Walkers are welcome in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Relay!
A relay team can consist of
fewer than 5 members (one or more members running more than one leg), but the entire team fee must still be paid.
A
relay team member can participate in more than one event as long as
he/she is registered in each event. For instance, someone could
register and pay the full marathon entry and also register as a team
member on a relay team. This person would then have the chip they
receive for the marathon with them the entire race and would also carry
the team chip (strapped to their ankle) during their leg of the relay.
Goodies: All
marathon relay participants receive a goody bag, t-shirt, poster, and
heartland hospitality both on and off the course (food, beverage and
availability of medical care and massage to aid your recovery).
Marathon relay finishers also receive a custom marathon relay
finisher’s medal.

* The lengths of the relay legs are approximate. The first leg is
short, as the 10K point is the bridge over the creek a little down the
road from the church where the exchange takes place. This makes the
second leg a little long (276 feet) but it does finish on the 15K mark.
The 3rd leg should finish on Lake Shore Drive right before the road
goes over the Lake Hefner Parkway, but space and traffic issues move
that exchange back into the park making the 3rd leg about .3 miles
short, or 7.3 miles. This of course makes the 4th leg .3 miles long, or
3.4 miles. Additionally, the 4th leg should have finished in the middle
of 63rd St. which would not work well, so you have to run to the other
side of the road. The 5th leg is very close to 10K.
